In our society, words like hero, honor, and support get bandied about, usually for work that is unnecessary and destructive. Lately, going into Walmart stores, I admired and appreciated the work done by the employees. Without them, the economy would almost be shut down.
You could say the same thing of grocery store employees and many others.
Wouldn't it be great if the virus panic caused us to start honoring people like these who are doing something necessary and constructive?! I hope it becomes a permanent change.

In this little town I live in, I'm beginning to see more local ads from folks out of work offering to do what they can do for money. As an example, this morning, an ad for power washing from a guy trying to feed his family. I personally would like to see our country going back to more of this person-to-person direct employment instead of all the high power shenanigans of bigger, more "organized" business which just jack up their prices right and left. As another example, and bear with me if this is boring, I recently changed my lawn service. I finally left the bigger business with the contract requiring 12 months of service (which is nothing for 3 months in the winter) and went to husband/wife team who works for $10 cheaper each visit, no contract. What I'm saying is that I, too, would like to see more focus (and power) to the everyday worker, the "common man" instead of the big hand of capitalism framing our thought system. It is that same hand which currently defines "hero" as referenced in your post. George
