Caption Contest for Mothers' Day

Who was responsible for setting Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May? Whoever they were, they loved their mother, because that time of year usually has excellent weather in most of the USA.

And then there is Colorado.


If we made a photo caption contest out of this, my offering would be, "Gee, Pops, where are all the customers?"


I guess this means that the tourist trade is headed straight for the crapper this weekend.

Prudence restricts my mobility right now. But this is my last year on an Obamacare HMO, which keeps me close to New Mexico. Also my tow vehicle has been on its last legs for several years. I expect that Medicare And A new tow vehicle but make me more mobile next year.

Anna Marie Jarvis (May 1, 1864 – November 24, 1948) was the founder of the Mother's Day holiday in the United States. Her mother had frequently expressed a desire for the establishment of such a holiday, and after her mother's death, Jarvis led the movement for the commemoration. However, as the years passed, Jarvis grew disenchanted with the growing commercialization of the observation (she herself did not profit from the day) and even attempted to have Mother's Day rescinded. She died in a sanitarium, her medical bills paid by people in the floral and greeting card industries. - Wikipedia

It is ironic that the she fought against commercialization yet her medical bills were paid by two biggest commercializers. It was Woodrow Wilson that made it a national holiday in 1914 not long after the 16th Amendment was ratified and gave us the IRS.

I am surprised that Woodrow Wilson didn't make Mother's Day a holiday in 1917. It would have made for some good politician type speeches consoling mothers about their dead Sons, 'who paid the ultimate sacrifice to bring freedom and democracy to the world Etc.'
