A Different Type of Beauty

The other day, while getting my van fixed, I had what you could call an especially pleasant travel experience.  The Little Cute One and I sat on a bench on the south side of the service building.  The air was chilly, but the sun had plenty of force, especially because it bounced off the brick wall at our backs.

To the south, the Huachuca Mountains were snow-capped and crisp-looking.  I enjoyed looking at them.  But even more, I enjoyed the sound of productive human beings in the repair shop.  There is a beauty to productive human beings that should be glorified more.

It is so easy to start the day with the same ol' internet routine.  But recently I 'discovered' videos about "car flipping."  It is becoming more popular for people to buy dead or dying cars at low prices, do a weekend or two of work on them, get them working again, pretty them up some, and sell them off at a profit.

Work like that must be very satisfying and beneficial for all concerned.  There is almost a magic to taking something useless and breathing life back into it.  With high-end pickup trucks going for over $100,000 new, with inflation raging, and with interest rates going up, 'remanufacturing' cars might turn into a real industry, or at least a cottage industry.

Perhaps it would be especially valuable in rural areas, where the economy depends on driving many miles per year.  They tend to have a stronger connection to a car culture.  They have large garages, machine shops, and large backyards.  (And are less restricted by zoning laws.)  In contrast, city people are college-educated office workers who barely know how to change a flat tire.

Regardless of where people live, I could see frustrated cubicle rats coming home on the weekend and doing something genuinely productive for a change.  The extra income will be appreciated.
