For every Epstein, Netanyahu, Trump, and Lindsay Graham there are many millions of decent human beings on planet Earth. And they should take a bow. They should feel good about something encouraging finally happening in the world.
But the drama isn't over. The Republican Party needs to have a post-mortem with some serious soul-searching. They could see this as a fortunate wake-up call that gives them time to prevent an even bigger disaster in 2028. Wouldn't that be ironic?
The GOP needs to ask themselves what they will offer the American people other than:
1. War, war, and more war.
2. An Israel-first foreign policy.
3. Wasteful, ineffective, and unnecessary military spending.
4. Years of higher inflation.
5. Seeing the stock market as the measure of the health of the economy.
It shouldn't be hard to learn what the average American is actually concerned about. Why wouldn't a party want to focus on these things?
The Israel-firsters in the party will probably continue in denial about the significance of the recent mid-term election. But there must be a fraction of the GOP that wants to shift their emphasis.
I am afraid that the war-mongers will remain in control of the GOP, except that they learn to be more indirect and convoluted in their approach, to keep it hidden and out of the news.
Trump himself has no real loyalty to the Republican Party. He has already half-destroyed it and he isn't afraid of completely destroying it.
