If you live long enough, you'll have a chance to experience anything, no matter how ridiculous. Getting excited about buying clothes seems about as silly as one get, to me. But it actually happened.
I bought an excellent windproof, hooded shell in a thrift store, the other day. I have always admired people who come out of thrift stores with their trophy-like bargains. But you have to tolerate disorganized clutter, and I don't. Since I bought an over-sized windshell, it came down long, almost to the mid-thigh. And the arms were long, too. I love jackets like that.
Recently an expensive bicycle jacket wore out at the zipper. It was probably 8 years old. I didn't think those narrow zippers would last more than one year. But I felt inspired to get completely away from over-priced bicycle clothing. After all, the fabric is just common nylon or polyester, made in some fabric mill in east Asia that makes square light-years of the stuff every year.
At the same thrift store I found a safety orange short-sleeve shirt, over-sized once again. This shirt -- with no zippers or buttons to maintain -- fit over the cheapie cotton Walmart long-sleeve shirts that I bicycle in. As a second layer, it provides a little extra warmth. It took 'every thing I had' to break with my lifelong habit of buying over-priced bicycle garments.
I was on a roll! I do look at clothes at Walmart occasionally, and while bumping around in one of their stores, it happened. Do you remember that scene in the movie, "A Dog's Purpose", when the corgi first saw the love of his life. Dreamy, lovie-poo music started playing, etc.:
And I saw her too. Well, it. It was called a George-brand sleeping Tee (shirt). It was thin and pocketless, with no zipper or buttons. Look at the material:
92% rayon, and 8% spandex. It would be nice to say that sleeping in rayon makes you feel 5 F cooler. Maybe it is only 3 F. But I'll take it. The Be-all and End-all for a camper is staying cool. It is the Meaning and Purpose of Life. It expresses the cosmic principle of The Good. It shows Divine Mercy.
And I found it at Walmart, when I wasn't looking for it. Although my knees started wobbling and I feared I would fall into a swoon, the shopping cart supported me, so I didn't hit the floor.
